Winter Floods 2000
The heavy and prolonged rainfall during autumn 2000 left the ground saturated as winter started. Consequently even a short spell of heavy rain thereafter would result in rivers overflowing their banks once more. Throughout the county many people who lived and worked close to the flood plains had their daily routines disrupted, although Dorset suffered far less from the flooding than did many other parts of the country. The scenes below show parts of the Stour valley from Wimborne northwards at the beginning of December. Other parts of the county (E.g. Winterborne Stickland) fared little better.
