Wimborne St Giles

A small scattering of houses in the north-eastern part of the county – Wimborne St.Giles is the estate village at the centre of the Shaftesbury estate (home of the Ashley Coopers). The well known memorial in London to the 7th Earl of Shaftesbury – the statue of Eros – is aligned with this village, as it is here where the 7th Earl lies buried.

The photographs shown here were taken late-afternoon in mid-April, a long period of high pressure giving a hazy sun. Starting at the Church of St Giles (built 1732) the gallery follows a short walk around the village green, past the village school, up the eastern side of the River Allen a for short distance before finally returning back down the western side of the river.
