Canford Heath

One of the few patches of lowland heathland still remaining in the county – in years past much of the eastern part of the county would have looked like this; sharp spined patches of gorse competing with tracts of heather and bracken.

Canford heath lies on the northern edge of Poole, forming a natural barrier between Poole and Wimborne Minster. Seen here on a wet winter morning, the heath is a popular recreation area with numerous paths and tracks criss-crossing its undulating sandy surface. For views of heathland in mid-summer try Holt Heath and Middlebere Heath.
