Poole Harbour

Poole Harbour is one of the largest natural harbours in the world, although for the most part it is shallow (<2m) with large tracts of tidal mudflats and sandbanks. Seen here between 20:00 and 21:30 on a late July evening, presenting a tranquil and atmospheric scene. The shallow conditions in the harbour make it particularly popular with wind and kite-surfers and with all other kinds of small nautical craft, all year round. Raking for cockles buried shallow in the sand is a popular traditional activity at low tide, particularly along the foreshore between Compton Acres and Sandbanks.
